To help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigate Europe’s evolving sustainability landscape, the House of Sustainability recently organised an introductory workshop in collaboration with EFRAG, the European Commission’s technical advisory body on sustainability reporting.

The session focused on the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME) — a practical framework designed to help smaller companies communicate transparently with their stakeholders while keeping reporting requirements proportionate. Officially adopted by the European Commission in July as a recommendation, the VSME Standard offers clear guidance for SMEs seeking to align with EU sustainability expectations.

During the workshop, Elisa Bevilacqua, Senior Technical Manager from EFRAG’s VSME Team, presented the key features of the standard, including its modular structure and the supporting ecosystem of tools and platforms. The second part of the event, led by Giulia Faedo and Lorenzo Baldini, also from EFRAG, focused on the practical application of selected VSME disclosure points, featuring a Luxembourg-specific example presented by Philippe Scholten, Sustainability Advisor at the House of Sustainability.

The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, providing participants with valuable insights into how the new standard can support their sustainability reporting journey.
